Running a creative studio is rewarding, but the operational side can be exhausting. Before Kowbi existed, managing a rental studio meant:
- Endless back-and-forth coordinating schedules via text and email
- Racing to the studio for every single check-in
- Manual payment collection and chasing late invoices
- Double-booking scares when Peerspace and direct bookings collided
- No documentation when damage disputes arose
The Breaking Point
After one too many 6 AM check-ins and a costly damage dispute with no photo evidence, it became clear: there had to be a better way.
Building What We Needed
Kowbi started as a simple internal tool for our own studio. The requirements were straightforward:
- Let clients book 24/7 without manual coordination
- Self-service check-in with PIN codes (no more racing to unlock doors)
- Automatic payment processing including deposits and overtime
- Photo documentation at check-in and checkout
- Calendar sync to prevent double-bookings across platforms
From Internal Tool to Platform
After months of using Kowbi in our own studio, something interesting happened: other studio owners started asking how we managed everything so smoothly. When we showed them the software, the response was consistent: "Can I use that?"
That's when Kowbi became a product.
